335i BMW Performance
Toyota Motor Corporation launched the Lexus luxury vehicle division in 1989 but the project began in 1983. The Presidents of the Toyota Motor Corporation at the time Toyoda was Ejji and has considered developing a line of cars that could compete with other luxury brands. Toyoda has met its executives and asked a simple question. He wanted to know if Toyota is able to produce a luxury car that could challenge the best luxury vehicles on the market. The project would be developed under strict secrecy and has been codenamed F1 (Flagship + Number one vehicle).
The project took about five years to complete and appears to have been a resounding success. The first of the new luxury line to be introduced is the LS 400. Introduced for 1989 model, the LS 400 has paved the way by making Lexus the highest selling brand of luxury cars in the world. Toyota Lexus introduced in 68 countries and territories around the world. Curiously, Lexus Toyota has not introduced on the Japanese market until 2005, although the Lexus has been made there is quite until 2003, when the assembly plant for the Lexus RX 300 opened its doors in Ontario, Canada.
Since the release of the LS 400 sedan 1989, Lexus has further expanded the range of popular vehicles to include another sedan, a coupe, a convertible and SUV models. By 2005, a line hybrid site was introduced in the Lexus fold.
The thought and attention to detail went into every phase of planning for new division Toyota and an image-consulting firm Lippincott & Margulies has been adopted to cultivate a list of possible names for the new line. The first proposal the firm included a list of 219 potential monikers. Among the top choices include the names: Alexis, Caliber, Chaparel, Vectra and Verona. Alexis was the man head but was changed to Lexus as a combination of the words "luxury" and "elegance".
Car Market U.S. is the main platform to launch the new luxury line up a team of designers has taken the decision to observe its target audience of nearly to determine what would be most attractive in a luxury vehicle. To this end, several F1 designers rented a house in Laguna Beach in California to observe first hand the lifestyle and tastes of the car, class buyers. In January 1989, the new Lexus LS 400 has been exhibited in the North American International Auto in Detroit, Michigan. In September the same year, the new luxury car sold for the first time.
A success from the outset, the Lexus LS400 sold 63,594 new models in its first year. By 1991, Toyota had achieved its objective and New Line Lexus has won the title as the best tool for selling luxury the United States.
