After the end of the Second World War the famous car manufacturer Renault has been supported by the French government and became the board National Mills Renault. The nationalization came after the company's founder, Louis Renault was accused of collaborating with the occupation forces German. Louis must die in prison before his trial.
The new publicly held company was headed by Pierre Lafauche and immediately impacted in peacetime automobile market. The 4CV model proved popular, fighting off the challenge of foreign competitors like the VW Beetle Morris Minor and remain in production until 1961.
The successor of the 4CV, the Dauphine, has also been a resounding success in the market inside. However, foreign sales did not meet expectations, especially across the Atlantic, and early 1960, the Renault 4 and Renault 8 were introduced. These models all had the engine in the back, but following the launch of the Renault 10, the company increased attention to the prior model motor premium. In 1966 the world's first hatchback, the Renault 16 was introduced, followed by the smallest Renault 6.
With the fuel savings measures envisaged, due to the oil crisis of the early 1970s, the Renault 5, both smaller and cheaper, has been launched. Known as the R5, it stood the test of time for over a decade before being replaced by Super5.
In an attempt to develop a presence in the United States and Canada, the company has collaborated with U.S. manufacturers as AMC. But in the 1970s it was disappearing as the name of his own in the U.S. market. Despite this company also developed markets and production in Eastern Europe, South America and Australia.
Heavy losses in the years 1980, when Renault lost FFR12 dollars a year, has led to a restructuring of the company. Three years later the company signed an agreement with the Japanese automaker Nissan, which became known as the Renault-Nissan if the two companies retain their own identity. Other developments have seen Renault take a stake in the Russian manufacturer of automobiles VAZ in 2008.
