There are times in everyone's career you want to run away and start over, and I am here to say that you can do it!

I reinvented my career five times including being a disc jockey on radio, public relations director in professional sports, community relations director in television, regional marketing director in finance and now I am a manager of global technical projects in high technology.

If you want to change careers, but worried that your salary would decrease, take comfort in knowing that every time I changed careers I have received an increase of salary!

Reinventing your career means repackaging your skills, qualifications and achievements so you can transition to a new professional role, business or industry. Here are five steps to help the transition to a new career more quickly, easily and perhaps even with a higher salary!

1. Where is your passion? The first step is to determine where you want to go. How industry would you work? Advertising? Finance? Health care? When I wanted to stop being a disc jockey, I knew I wanted to go into television. And after a distinguished career in television, I then set my sights on entering Business in America. I was not sure what kind of role that I wanted to work (or could get!), But the first step was determine the area where I wanted to work.

If you do not know where you want to go (just as where you are now permanently the wrong place!) Can read journals, industry publications and advertisements in your local newspaper. Visit a bookstore and leaf through books and magazines to see what your attention. The key is to understand what lights your fire and inspire you.

2. What are your skills transferable? These are skills that the transition from one industry to the, or a job role to a role. Examples include: project management, teams, clients or budgets and negotiating contracts or to propose and implement ideas that generate money save money, or help the company be more competitive.

Other transferable skills include features such as personal leadership or risk taking, training and mentoring team members, the aim being driven, results-oriented, a problem solver, or having the ability to influence senior management. These are great skills to have, and they pass industry to industry. All sorts of industries and companies value employees with these types of skills and characteristics.

3. Correspondent your transferable skills to job roles. Read job descriptions posted in online at CareerJournal, CareerBuilder and Monster, as well as ads in magazines, journals, and newspapers. If you want to work for a specific company then check their site online jobs. Acquire the skills and qualifications required for professional roles different.

Match your skills transferable to the job you want to go after. If there is a gap between the skills needed and skills that you currently have, then look for ways to gain this experience as taking extended assignment in your current job, the freelance, consulting, or even volunteer.

Also, attend industry conferences, trade shows, activities networking and business association meetings. Talk to people working in the industry to learn about their career path, responsibilities and tips for how to break into the business.

4. Blow up your resume. The first thing I always done before I transition into a new career explode my CV. Trying to piece together a resume that highlights the skills I used for my last job with the skills I need to land my next job is like trying to weld parts on Lexus a BMW. It does not work. You need a brand new resume.

Showcase only those jobs, responsibilities and achievements that relate to the job you want. The hiring manager does not care about every job you've ever had. They just want to know, Can you do the job? You may also want to get a professional resume critique to help you customize your resume and identify your transferable skills.

5. Attitude is the key ingredient! I found that getting a new job really boils down to two things: confidence and passion. I never came in an interview having met all the requirements of the position. In fact, for the television interview, I missed the two biggest requirements have a minimum of two years experience in television and a tape to show my work TV.

To compensate, I focus on my skills transferable were extremely creative and a massive advertising copywriter. That Got my foot in the door for cleaning. But to get the offer Employment and beat the other candidates 4 job, I was passionate about the company and the job! I also told the hiring manager I absolutely knew I could do the job!

There is a kind of quiet confidence that we all down to the bottom. A confidence that comes from knowing that that we can do. When you turn in the role of new job or new business you must show the hiring manager that you trust you and I know that you will succeed in employment. When it comes to reinventing your career, not only your talent but your attitude is everything!
