Business Problem -- Due to restrictions under different growth by acquisition, many different types of UNIX are installed and executed within the organization. The customer has applications running on Data General, HP-UX, SCO UNIX, IBM AIX and Sun Solaris. Each of these different operating systems had a print spooler handles and own printer setup and device management queues with its own flavor Administration Tools print spooler (using the LP print utility that was developed 35 years ago). These tools lack intuitiveness and are not robust. This has led to confusion and complexity.
The client wanted to be more responsive to users and remote IT staff. Due to workload, higher priority issues, and the amount of requests received by central IT help office staff, unnecessary delays in customer experience has been queued for printing and installation of devices and management in the world. These print requests related services accounted for approximately 40% of all calls within the service area for assistance.
In In addition to customer problems across their infrastructure, print management, regional managers of the requested IT can configure and manage their own print queues and devices around the world. Thus, the print management across the world should be improved and standardized and consistent approach, the common print management, across all platforms, is essential if managers can develop their queues print own without having to be trained on the tools of multiple UNIX systems. Technical - Solution The first step was to install OM Plus so it could be tested against the printing and print competition from other solutions management spool. After rigorous testing, the client determined that the technologies of print spooler solution proved be the best.
