BMW Exhausts
We talked and combustion engines, they go through to the power of your vehicle. In essence, the fuel enters the combustion chamber, the spark ignition triggers a small explosion contained in the chamber and the exhaust outlets involved. The entry of fuel and the departure of the exhaust gases are controlled largely by the camshaft. Below I will explain what they are and describe how they perform their jobs.
Camshafts Described
A camshaft is a rod on which sit on cam. The cams (sometimes called lobes) are oblong in shape with one end projecting significantly outwards from the stem. The stem rotates, too, do the cams. The end protruding from each lobe is what ultimately makes them do their work.
Understanding Their Job
Firstly, to better understand the role of the camshaft, let's review the steps 4 happens in the combustion chamber of your car. When does the induction stroke, a piston is near the top of the room. The piston goes down, the intake valve opens and the room fills with the air-fuel mixture. Then, the compression stroke begins and the piston rises, compressing the air-fuel mixture in the chamber.
The power stroke begins as the piston reaches the top of the room. At the top is a candle. The spark ignites the compressed fuel-air mixture, creating an explosion. The force of the explosion pushes the piston down the room. As it descends, the exhaust stroke begins as the exhaust valve opens. The piston rises and forces the exhaust of the combustion chamber.
The above description of the process in 4 stroke goes through your engine is required to fully appreciate the work of the camshaft. I mentioned that the intake valve opens during the induction stroke. As is the case, a fuel injector for gasoline grows in the room. The inlet valve opens in response to one of the cams on the camshaft. The stem rotates, protruding end of the cam shape oblong pushes against the end of the intake valve. As it does, it forces the valve downward and, therefore, creates an opening into the combustion chamber for fuel.
You will recall that the exhaust valve opens so that the rise of the piston can force exhaust gas that exists after the power bar. It happens the same way as with the camshaft intake. A tree exhaust cam and runs one of the oblong cam on the rod pushes down on the tip of the exhaust valve. This creates an opening in the chamber through which gases are ejected.
This process occurs hundreds of times every minute while you're on the road. The whole system is designed around seamless synchronization. Although the engines draw the most attention from consumers, they would not function properly without camshafts.
