BMW Experience Germany
McLaren Mercedes had a fabulous couple of seasons with the emergence of Lewis Hamilton. Many have forgotten, however, that the team had serious problems before that period seems McLaren is back on the tracks.
McLaren Mercedes team is a historic race. Almost 40 years, the team has had ups and downs serious as might be expected for any team that races in such a period. That said, the last 10 years have been very suspicious for McLaren. During this period, the team has been very difficult to follow the leaders when the regulations Formula one call to major design changes.
The last time these changes were requested, McLaren fell flat on its collective face. This has led to a long period of domination of Michael Schumacher and Ferrari. Only when the best driver to develop cars, Fernando Alonso, boarded McLaren suddenly picked up the pace. Oh, there was also the little fact that McLaren had their hands on internal information Ferrari an error which it paid 100 million dollars in fines.
The 2009 season of Formula One is the beginning in contrast to the change we've seen before. Most of the cars are about as different from the 2008 model as you can imagine. The teams are approaching the changes in from different perspectives. All indications are that McLaren is once again having huge problems to launch a new car. During recent tests Spain, where the ten teams testing, McLaren finished at or near the rear and often was 2.5 to 3 seconds behind the leaders.
Tests for pre-season is, of course, the pre-season testing. I mean that teams can run different configurations, which compares the time a futile gesture. Ron Dennis noted the car was "definitely not as fast as we would like it either, but suggests aerodynamic changes are coming that will make cars faster. The problem, of course, is the first race of the season in two weeks and not in season testing is permitted.
Perhaps the most revealing, Ron Dennis smirked some times to be implemented by small teams have been fast because they have tried to attract sponsors. This seems logical, but there is a problem with the statement. BMW and Ferrari have been put in place the best time and they do not need a sponsor to help.
McLaren Mercedes is cast for the season 2009 already? Of course not. Nobody knows where the teams stand until the race starts. That said, McLaren and Lewis Hamilton fans should be more than a little nervous.
