BMW Model Designations

Originally built for the German Federal Army (Bundeswehr) stop gap the VW Thing is available in four variants as detailed below:
Type 181
This is the official name for the Volkswagen factory left hand drive VW Thing. Originally built for the German Federal Army (Bundeswehr) designated as a multi-purpose vehicle. On the German market is known as the Kubel or Kubelwagen, the same as its predecessor of World War 2.
THING
In 1973 and 1974, 28,930 units of the VW Thing were exported to the United States. These models are essentially the standard Type 181 Thing. There were however some differences compared to the Safari model. This includes equipment Complete emission engine, following the chassis number was the letter X, for export and the central door pillar left a sticker the U.S. DOT. Initially, they should be styled VW Type 181 but wanted the model to be known as Safari. Unfortunately General Motors 'belongs' Use the "Safari" in the U.S. market, having used on Pontiac Station Wagon 1955.
With this Volkswagen of America, therefore resolved to call the Type 181 as "The Thing". The official title has been supported in the literature and VW in 42 states records DMV. The VW Thing was sold in Canada and in several other countries, they were transferred from the United States after delivery.
ACAPULCO
Available in 1974, the VW Thing "Acapulco" model was a stock VW Thing with a few minor trim changes. The body work was painted in blue with white interior & Matching steps have also been installed, they came with either a hardtop or soft top and in general Surry high.
SAFARI
Produced for the Mexican domestic market at the Safari was also exported to countries south of Mexico. Then Safari that could run on gasoline inferior Premex Mexican domestic engines all had low compression pistons installed.
TYPE 182 (Trekker)
The VW Thing in RHD format was produced for the UK market, while the demonstrators, special order or for military use in countries where the right-hand drive is standard and was designated the Type 182. Only a small number of type 182s were produced and type 182 was officially sold in Britain by VW dealers in 1974-75, under the name "Trekker." This follows a competition organized by Volkswagen UK to "name the car" because of opposition to the dealers' VW Thing "name. Press reports at the time only 300 were imported are contradicted by records of surviving chassis numbers showing less than 100. This is probably due to inflated prices and thus did not sell very well. Made in Mexico (not Germany), generally to 1974 specification thing, but with the rear-lights European and flashing before.

BMW 3/20 $70.1 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The BMW 3/20 PS was the first BMW automobile designed entirely by BMW. It was manufactured from 1932 to 1934, replacing the 3/15 model that was initially an Austin 7 manufactured under licence from the Austin Motor Company. The engine used in the 3/20 was based on the Austin Seven engine used in the 3/15, but its crankshaft ran in plain bearings instead of roller bearings and had an 80 mm (3.1 in) stroke, generating a displacement of 788 cc (48.1 cu in). The new engine design also had a water pump and an overhead valve cylinder head. These design changes caused the engine to generate 20 hp, but did not change the taxable horsepower rating of 3 PS, thus giving the model designation 3/20. The 3/20 was larger than the 3/15, with an 84.6 in (2,149 mm) wheelbase and a body 3 in (76 mm) lower than the 3/15. It inherited the 3/15 DA4s independent front suspension and added a swing axle independent rear suspension, using a transverse leaf spring similar to that used at the front. BMW 3 Series (E36) $71.7 The BMW E36 is the third generation of the 3 Series compact executive cars produced by BMW. It was introduced in late 1990 (as a 1991 model) for Europe and in late 1991 (as a 1992 model) for US and Canada. It was the successor to the E30 3 Series and was eventually replaced by the E46 3 Series in 1998, though E36 coupes were still produced for the 1999 model year. The E36 experienced enormous success in the market. It laid strong foundations for the success that the BMW E46 experienced in subsequent years. Also known as the Dolphin shape, the E36 was sold from 1991 through 1999. All E36 sedans, coupes, and station wagons employed the Zaxle multilink suspension in the rear which had been proven in the Z1. The hatchback body style, known as the E36/5 or BMW Compact, was identical to the regular E36 from front bumper to APillar. In order to save space due to its truncated rear end, the Compact used a rear semitrailing arm suspension based on the old E30 (also found in the Z3 and M Coupe), instead of the ZAxle Multilink employed in all other E36s. BMW 6 Series Enthusiast's Companion $26.95 In his BMW 6 Series Enthusiast's Companion? Jeremy Walton presents the history of one of BMW's most revered lines: the "Sixers", from the 3.0 liter, 126 mph 630Csi to the 155 mph M6 35Csi with its fabulous 24-valve motor. Walton discusses 6 Series origins, design and engineering development, racing history, and sales statistics in both America and Europe. Fully restored 1988 sixer 1986 Spa 24 Hours in Belgium You'll learn about the formation of Bayerische Motoren Werke from its late nineteenth century manufacturing origins to its contemporary fame. Devastated by WWII, BMW still managed to become the manufacturer of one of the world's most luxurious and technically sophisticated automobile lines. The evolution of BMW luxury sport coupes leads directly to the 6 Series, as BMW struggles to live up to its own reputation in creating a new legend. The story is fascinating not only for the details that the author's painstaking research and long experience have provided, but also for an understanding of all the influences at work on BMW in the successful creation of a new line. Being a BMW story, racing action is never far away. The exciting story of the 635's underdog role in European racing against the more powerful V12 Jaguars and the "brick-like" Volvo turbos is faithfully detailed. 6 Series racing in Australia is also recorded. It is the story of a sensational showroom coupe that BMW never intended to race but which, in the end, could be proud of a championship pedigree that many purpose built competition cars never equal. It is an amazing story told by an author who was directly involved with the events. The book is generously illustrated with rare photos and line drawings. BMW 7 Series (E32) $82.85 In July 1986, BMW introduced the second generation of the 7 series, known internally as the E32. Aimed at the high end of the luxury market, the car offered some of the latest innovations in automotive technology, and a new, topofthe line V12 engine. Some luxury options featured on the E32 included integrated telephone and fax machines, a wine cooler, double glazing, electronic stability control, and a system that automatically increased spring pressure on the windshield wipers, to keep them firmly pressed on the glass at Autobahn speeds. Incidentally, the E32 was the first car adhering to BMWs selfimposed speed limit of 250 km/h (155.37 mph). According to the official American brochure in 1987, the ungoverned 750iL could reach 300 km/h (186.4 mph), with a side note that the terminal speed was electronically restricted. The car was also available in a stretched version (indicated by an L after the model number), in which case an extra 11.4 centimetres (4.5 in) of leg room was available to the rear passengers by stretching the rear doors, and the body at this point. Car Model $81.25 An automobile model is a particular brand of vehicle sold under a marque by a manufacturer, usually within a range of models, usually of different sizes or capabilities. From an engineering point of view, a particular car model is usually defined and/or constrained by the use of a particular car chassis/bodywork combination or the same monocoque, although sometimes this is not the case, and the model represents a marketing segment. This engineering frame may have derivatives, giving rise to more than one body style for a particular car model. For example, the same model can be offered as a fourdoor sedan, a twodoor coupe, a station wagon, or even as a foldingroof convertible, all derived from essentially the same engineering frame. An example of this is the BMW 3series.
