BMW Overrated
The new "skin" of BMW cars?
Okay so this news might be old to you but it's the first I heard speak. BMW comes out with a new car that looks like this: http://static.wallpaper.com/images/186_bmw_290508_si_f.jpg Can you just tell me whats the purpose the "skin" of the car? It looks like it can easily be extracted. Just any info on this would be good. Cause at first it looks weird, but is it the new car of the future? or is BMW is overrated? heres another shot of it from a different angle. http://www.gizmag.com/pictures/9483_17060864536.jpg
That's the GINA concept car - it sits at the top of the BMW Museum in Munich. It is made of a polymer impressive - but it's just a prototype. They have yet to develop a little - like beating at high speed and wear over time. They have no intention of actually use on their production line from now, it was just an idea. It is not easily torn - I think they had a video where they got people to try to cut with a knife and they could not. The purpose of this development is that it is less expensive than metal, and you can change the shape of the car by just changing the form of a metal beam underneath. It would significantly reduce the cost of body after wreck because the car could simply be re-packaged in an hour or two - and it would greatly reduce the resources necessary to make the car, and the time to do so - thus reducing the price.
