Backlinks: Think of search engines to judge all websites like a popularity contest. Each backlink to a website counts as a vote. As a search is submitted to a search engine, meet the sites that have relevant content and those classified according to votes received (number of backlinks). Now anchor text adds even more insanity to the equation. If you said in your anchor text with the word domain keyword or phrase you are trying to find that the vote has more weight than a regular backlink. At day's end, if you had a million links recoil with anchor text reading "BMW Parts" is a very good chance he would be in the top three results for that search term, regardless the content of this page.
Hint: Join a forum or a discussion board related to your services or products and start adding posts useful. Link to your website in your post or signature.
Social Networks: With all the buzz on Twitter and other social networking sites, now is the time to seize the traffic that may develop.
