When Toyota launched its Lexus luxury brand, the role of each plate were clearly defined: Toyota offered vehicles for the average consumer, and Lexus met the more upscale buyers. Now, after almost 20 years, the lines between Toyota and Lexus have become less clear. Toyota Avalon, a quasi-luxury large sedan is a perfect example of this vagueness.
Base price-$ 27,945 for entry level Avalon XL and $ 35,285 for the top Avalon Limited range tested here, Toyota's flagship sedan is so competent, it is more than qualified to cannibalize sales of the ES 350 in the division of society Lexus Premium. The Avalon has a wheelbase of 111 inches (1.7 inches longer than the Camry cousin), a powerful 268 horsepower 3.5-liter dual VVT-i 24-valve V6, and enough progress to satisfy the electronic buyers premium. The only place where he misses the true pleasure is in the quiet interior, which is compromised by wind noise at a high cruising speed and the tire noise on rough surfaces.

As you gradually fill a slower vehicle, the system automatically reduces engine power to maintain a safe distance (a very long way) and then resumes its previous rate when the vehicle changes lanes or other speeds. So what if someone suddenly cuts in front of you? The system goes into save-your-bacon mode, reducing engine power, the brakes are applied, and sounding an attention-grabbing tag.
