The rear plastic is the weak point in any hood. Plastic windows are easily scratched and discolored with age. Our experience in Northern California is that the plastic windows (??????????? ????) TPU has been developed in Switzerland by BMW for use in convertible tops Z8 Roadsters their price is high. TPU plastic is more expensive but made to maintain flexibility and be more resistant to scratching and fading. This is not based on PVC and has So no problems with plasticizers leach out of plastic. With proper care, it is designed to last much longer than the PVC plastic base.
Some BMW, Porsche and Audi are plastic rear windows installed with an updated system zipper. The Zipper systems are designed to make replacement plastic windows much quicker and easier than in the past. The bad news is that the window replacement products are exclusive dealer and are therefore expensive. Some of them can be installed at the dealership. In addition, these windows are PVC-based plastic.
Finally, some convertibles, it is possible to replace a plastic-top window with a glass top window. This is an excellent option when available since a window glass will last the life of the car and requires much less work to keep clean and clear.
