BMW Special Tools
My 530i is not a nut or hexagonal Allen. It is a 4 "CAP. How do I remove it? What direction do I turn it to remove?
I have a 2006 BMW 530i-sump engine oil is on the front of the engine. It has no nut or hexagonal Allen. I tried to remove it with a strap wrench, but it will not budge. What is the thread management is on the CAP? Is there a special removal tool?
Turn counterclockwise to remove. It is much too tight, if you can not activate it with a strap wrench. It should only be tight tight hand. The previous Bimmers have a 36mm nut on the lid of the filter for removing the CAP, but the new models need the V410 (86.50 mm) Filter Wrench oil for the removal of the CAP. Although a strap wrench should do as well. However, removal is counterclockwise. Remember not to replace the oil filter cap o-ring, and do not over tighten the filter cover or seal ring can squish Out and leakage. Hand tight only! The special removal tool is the key V410 oil filter but there is really no reason for a strap wrench may not be used.
