BMW in Motorsport $116.3 Throughout its history, BMW cars and motorcycles have been successful in a range of motorsport activities. Mainly before WW2, BMW motorcycles were winning e.g. at the Isle of Man TT. Apart from the factory efforts, many privateer teams enter BMW road cars in Touring car racing. BMW also entered cars or provided engines in Formula One, Formula Two and sportscar racing. BMW is currently active in ALMS, Formula One, the World Touring Car Championship (WTCe and the World Superbike Championship. An outstanding role played the 1500 cc BMW M10 engine block. The four cylinder started with modest 75 hp (56 kW) in 1961, became successful in touring cars, developed over 300 hp (224 kW) in 1970s Formula Two, and at the ripe age of a quarter century, produced almost twentyfold its original power in the 1986 turbocharged BMW M12/13/1. BMW E9 $60.54 The BMW New Six CS (internal name BMW E9) is the twodoor sport coup in BMWs New Six line, produced from 1968 to 1975 alongside the fourdoor BMW E3 sedan. It was the successor of the BMW E21 in 1982 and was replaced by the BMW E36 in 1990. BMW continued to produce the cabriolet (convertible) E30 well into 1993. The Touring remained in production until 1994 when the E36 touring replaced it. The M3 cabriolet was never officially offered for sale in North America; it was offered only for the European market. The BMW M3 was first introduced on the E30 platform. A widened version of the E30 front suspension and the drivetrain from the E30 325i were used in the BMW Z1 roadster. The E30 3Series was produced in four body styles, a four door saloon, a two door saloon, a five door estate (marketed as the touring ), and a two door convertible. A Baur cabrio was also available. The 325ix was produced from 1988 to 1991, and featured allwheel drive. It was available as a twodoor (saloon) or a fourdoor (sedan) and as touring. The car, now in its sixth generation, is sold in sedan and touring body styles. On January 29, 2008, the 5 millionth 5 series was manufactured, a 530d saloon in Carbon Black Metallic. The 5 Series got its name by being the fifth of the new series cars after the V8 and Isetta era. The preceding models were the 700, the New Class, the New Six 2500/2800/Bavaria and the CS. The 5 Series was intended to replace the older New Six sedans. The body was styled by Marcello Gandini, based on the Bertone 1970 BMW Garmisch 2002ti Geneva show car. Gandini also did the Fiat 132 and Alfa Romeo Alfetta, two other cars that have a similar design. There have been five generations of the 5 Series to date. To differentiate between them, they are referred to by their unique chassis numbers.
