BMW Transmissions
Tremec is a provider of transmission OE manufacturer of manual transmissions for Ford, General Motors, Chrysler, Aston Martin, TVR, and medium term many and different Heavy Duty Truck applications. The TKO is a high power transmission 5-speed manual overdrive that was originally designed to be installed in the Mustang Fox body cars to replace the T5 lower, but will also bolt up to the standard Ford bellhousing speed four-passenger car. When Tremec realized that fans were adapting applications for GM, they decided to make it a little easier for people (and capitalize on an opportunity huge, too) by producing a version of GM TKO.
The GM version will directly attach to almost any standard Chevrolet / Buick / Olds / Pontiac passenger car four-speed bellhousing. Although Ford and GM TKO versions are available, the Mopar fans can get all the custom parts they need to adapt version of Ford TKO to virtually every Mopar V8 engine. The TKO has never been OE equipment in any production car, although his grandfather, Grand Tremec TR-3550 was produced in a limited edition Ford Mustang Cobra in the mid-1990s. The TKO is purely an aftermarket power transmission for high performance cars.
There are three basic models available, the TKO-500 and two variants of the TKO-600. The wide-ratio TKO-500 is rated for a constant 500 lb-ft of torque, and offers a deep 3.27:1 ratio first gear and a 0.68:1 overdrive ratio in fifth gear. The big-TKO-600 ratio is evaluated for a continuous 600 lb-ft of torque, and a 2.87:1 First Report and either an overdrive 0.82:1 or 0.64:1 overdrive ratio in fifth gear. The capacity of rated torque were very conservative, because there are a large number of cars in the ground with engines that exceed the rated torque by a wide margin, and failures are rare.
The TKO uses a three-team internal rail mechanism, which eliminates external link and the problems that go with it. Her short gear lever machined aluminum can be removed, reversed 180 degrees, then reinstalled a position to provide additional shift. Optional custom shifters are available in several different configurations to mimic the positions of various Musclecars change. The TKO uses iron forks quarter of iron, a sink counter parts, and tapered roller bearings on input, output and the fight against the trees for added strength.
Any transmission output TKO provides mechanical and electronic tachometer. The production of mechanical design at Ford, but you can get cables in hybrids GM speedometer or Mopar applications. They also have a reverse switch and a neutral safety switch that can be harness connected to your existing vehicle. The transmission has an internal reverse lockout that prevents you from accidentally go fifth reverse speed. You should go to the center of the "Neutral" front door that you will not go into reverse.
The Tremec TKO is an excellent choice for the musclecar and street rod owner who enjoys rowing his own gears and wants to drive his car to the car shows or distant other events. I have one in my Pontiac Firebird 1967 and led a number of other cars TKO transmission installed. The overdrive makes a huge difference on the road, and there is not many other choices of transmission there with overdrive that resist this kind of power that TKO can take. No overdrive transmissions currently available that offer great versatility as the Tremec TKO.
