BMW Wheels Oem
Well, I am not an expert on turbo, but in November 1998, I have not bought my own turbocharged Sun and the boy that I learned many things. I read a long story on both the net and in publications popular import cars. I have a reasonable knowledge theories and equipment used in a small turbocharged 4 cylinder.
Let me say first and foremost, turbocharging a vehicle Naturally aspirated is not as simple as buying a kit or a motor and plugs up and driving. There is much more involved in this option if you plan to have dependible transportation that will last more than a few weeks.
Bolt on Mods:
Firstly, the engine you want to Turbocharge can not have a high compression ratio. The traditional compression ratio for a four-cylinder engine is 8.5 to 1. You can go a little higher with the injection multi-point. Most non-turbo cars have 9 to 1 or a higher compression ratio. You can just about 9 to 1 turboed but beyond, and momentum that you add with the turbocharger would result in a pre-detonation and blow your engine. Also, the higher the compression ratio, the less boost you can pump into the engine.
While you will be the engine of reconstruction custom low compression pistons to reduce compression ratio, and at the same time, you will strengthining the block to take the additional stress of the turbocharger.
Obviously, the entire computer system in your car must be changed over system for the engine to use. You'll need to get the shield, wiring harness, engine, all engine sensors, all solenoids and actuators and additional electronic control system turbo. So to ensure that a qualified mechanic is with you when purchasing.
Next up, the delivery of the fuel system must be upgraded. You'll need more flow injectors, a pump pressure of higher fuel and sub-pump, and a higher rate of fuel pressure regulator. Without the extra fuel the engine will run too thin under the leadership of the turbo, and explode, and blow.
You must convert the complete intake system, which includes an intake manifold, exhaust manifold, air plenum, discharge valve, the intake manifold and intercooler.
Now we're done with the engine up grade or replacement, it is time to consider all other changes you make.
The clutch is the most obvious the turbo needs a stronger clutch. You'll burn your stock one out in no time with the power booster. If this is a transmission, processing stock is not as heavy tranny used on the turbo models. You may replace cluster gear on an annual basis if you do not update or change you in a transgendered model turbo.
The crown wheel and pinions and differential in your application for shares is likely not as durable as those of the turbo models. You'll pop a bit until you diffs upgrade to the turbo parts.
The form of heat the turbo can affect engine cooling, which requires upgrading of radiators or fans. Also affected by the heat painting your hood, please isolate the engine room.
Do not forget the release of pressure gauges, turbo timer, etc.
Thus, it becomes quite obvious that this is no small task to put a turbo on a non turbo car. I can not imagine that installing the turbo and parts with your car would cost less than $ 2,000. Although, if you shop in the scrap yards that you could succeed in obtaining parts for you help them go for about $ 1,500 including installation.
There is another option though. There are several U.S. companies that make turbo kits custom cars import working on non-turbo, even with the compression ratio is too high for the system change actions. This will require a lot of pipe pieces and some electronics that can meet your computer and sensors to trick the computer into believing that your car is operating within normal parameters. This would not solve the problems of sustainability powertrain but the final product will probably exceed the compensation and stock turbo additional adjustment for more power will be easier because you start with equipment more flexible which will not need to be upgraded from OEM to work with.
