One of the questions foremost in the minds of people when it comes to electric cars (or anything for that matter) is "what is what it's going to cost me? "This is a multi-layered issue, but start at the beginning ... Today, electricity is so readily available and inexpensive compared to other fuels, which many people are willing to give. When was the last time someone paid for your gas tank? Did you know that if you run your batteries in your EV, you can stop and rest and leave you enough power to hobble along until you find a place with an electrical outlet.
"Excuse me, you think I could plug my car an hour before I eat in your coffee? What do you tell them? Technically speaking, this is not a good idea to let your batteries run this low EV, but in an emergency it may be necessary. Meanwhile, engineers are working on issues that range we are talking about. With the money and research that goes into perfecting more electric vehicles and infrastructure is expected to provide charging stations and battery changing stations out there will be some years before these problems are solved.
But what about the cost of an electric vehicle? Certainly, the new electric vehicles are currently cost prohibitive for most people and may not be available for many. The bad news is, prices for electric vehicles and new highway capable PHEVs being deployed by the year next will probably not improved significantly in recent years (think: high-end SUV prices). The good news is that you can get one today that resembles the car in your driveway. In fact, it could be the car in your driveway. Did you know that most EVs roads today were converted to a vehicle of the ice to a fraction of the cost of purchasing a new vehicle - some for as little as a few hundred dollars. I estimate intuitive than the average DIY EV conversion would cost between $ 2,000 and $ 10,000.
"It's wide enough, you say. Well, there are many factors which may affect the cost, not least, is what type of vehicle you are converting. Yes, there are some specialty shops that will transform your car for more than $ 15,000. By this time, you launch new (or good used) car pricing territory, so you'd better be sure you really like your car or find one that you want a high mileage or engine failure as the owner is willing to part with for almost nothing. But even at this cost, the longevity of the vehicle will more than pay for itself.
This is my point: if everyone who owns several vehicles would convert one of them power for the shortest span (Travel travel for example to work, shopping, etc.), in keeping another vehicle for longer trips, this would go a long way to reduce dependence on oil and harmful emissions that come with it. This is not a pie-in-the-sky idea - it is feasible. In the meantime these people to recover their investment less than one year from the money they save by not having to go to the gas station. Simply plug in the evenings and during the lead day. In as little as $ .03 per mile, compared to $ .20 - $ .30 per mile with your ice, you can imagine how much you will save over the next 5-10 years. Do the math, you amaze. (Hint: at least $ 2000/yr).
