The number of cars on the roads began to increase during 1920s as manufacturers began making smaller, lighter and cheaper vehicles for a wider market. Increase car ownership meant increasing traffic congestion. In the 1960s, the problem of traffic in London, was considered as affecting only the evening and morning rush hour in central London. But rising fuel prices is that the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the cost of driving.
